The violent attacks plunged the eastern city of Dnepropetrovsk into a vortex of fear in the summer of 2007. The three, who are now 20 years old, were teenagers at the time they allegedly battered their victims with hammers and pipes.
They are three well off Russian boys who said they went around killing people for fun. I am sure Russia has some pretty gruesome punishment for this sort of thing (like torturing them to death).
It sounds like they were in prison for a year before they were charged, so there is some controversy about whether or not they were forced to confess.

If they spent less time laying around drinking vodka and more time working then maybe Americans would have a better stereotype 
I guess another stereotype is politicians murdering people with radioactive materials?
